HELP SAVE THE CALGARY REFUGEE CLINIC

The Calgary Refugee Health Society is experiencing critical funding challenges. We are urgently seeking your support.

Our clinic, which serves thousands of Calgary’s most vulnerable newcomers, is at imminent risk of closure.

For over twenty years the Calgary Refugee Clinic has been a cornerstone in providing comprehensive healthcare to refugees upon arrival to Canada.

The clinic has over 2500 active patients with a constant stream of new arrivals. Last year alone the clinic provided 25,972 medical and allied health appointments.

The Mosaic Primary Care Network has provided operational funding for our program since 2013. We have been notified that there will no longer be funding for the clinic beyond April 1, 2025. This regrettable change has left us without a viable funding source to sustain our operations.

The clinic’s closure would not only leave vulnerable newcomers without essential healthcare but also increase the strain on our health care system, in particular our emergency departments and acute care services.

Refugees often arrive with a myriad of health issues, including neglected chronic diseases, infectious diseases, disabilities and mental health issues. They require timely access to health care, with language support, in order to successfully resettle in Calgary.

Following the management of immediate health needs and a period of stabilization, patients are transitioned from the clinic to a new medical home.
